LYMPHOMA
These
are tumours of lymph glands and other lymphatic tissue in
the
body. It constitites 5% of all malignancies. Improvement in
radiotherapy and chemotherapy have cured many patients
and thus
the need to discuss this conditions.
8.1 Hodgkins Deases
The
desease appears in the
late teens and
early 20's the
incidence falls in the thirties and forties. It
reappears again
in the older age groups.
8.1.1 CLINICAL
The
patient appears with an enlargement of one or more group of
lymph glands which are painless.
Patient has other complains of

Weight loss
*
Fever
*
Night sweats
Some
patients complain of
it ching and
pain on taking
alcohol.
Diagnosis is established by lymph node
biopsy
8.1.2 PATHOLOGY
The
histology of the lymph gland shows byphocytes, granulocytes
histocytes and plasma cells. The
typical cells are the more meno
nuclear hodgkin cells and the
binuclear Read Sternbury cells. Ann

Stage
I Involvement of single lymph node region or a
single
extra nodel organ involvement
Stage II Involvement of two or more lymph node regions on the
same side of the diaphragm or one
organ and lymph node
region on the same side.
Stage III Involvement of both sides of diaphragm
Stage IV Disseminated decease
to more one
or more
extranodal organs i.e. liver, marrow
pluera or lung.
