URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI)
The most common
route of infection is via the
urethra. The
infection occurs
most often when there is obstruction,
diabetes
or tumours. The
chances are high in case of females,
since the
urethra is
shorter. In males urinary infection occurs
with the
onset of age-related hypertrophy of the prostate.
Haematogenous
spread to the kidney may occur in
cases of
skin
infection, hydronephtrosis and renal stones.
Lymphatic
spread of infection can also
occur from the
common
lymphatics of the colon and lower parts of the urinary
tracts.
8.1 Bacteriology
The common
organisms are E.Coli, Proteus, Klebsella,
Enterocoli
and Pseudomonas.
