URINARY BLADDER conditions 1

EXTROPY OF THE BLADDER
      This congenital defect of non-development of the anterior wall of the bladder and the abdomen in one in 30000 births. The trigone and the openings of the ureters are visable. The condition and its treatment is discussed in chapter on pediatric surgery.

6. FISTULA
      Vesico-enteric fistulas are as a result of inflamatory disease of the colon (diverticalitis) or crohn’s disease. Carcinoma of the colon or bladder can also be responsible.

6.1 Pnematurea (passing air) occurs in 60% of cases.

6.2 Fecalurea occurs in 20-50% of cases. Diagnosis is established radiologic contrast (IVP or Ba) will be required.

7. Vesico-Vaginal Fistula

      This occurs as a result of injury sustained during prolonged unattended labour. Injury can also occur following urolgic or gynaecologic procedures, Fistula can also occur following pelvic trauma malignancy or radiation. Surgical repair should be attempted in all cases.
