Trauma
Two distinct classes of rupture occur
those in the bulbous urethra or the membranous urethra. They may be complete or
incomplete. Rupture of the Bulbous urethra is more common accident and the patient
has a history of a fall on a projecting object. The presentation is with
urethral haemorrhage, a perineal haemaotma and retention of urine. The patient
should be told not to try to pass urine. No attempt should be made to catherise
him until he is fit to be taken to an operation theatre. Suitable dose of
analgesic is given and a course of chemotherapy started.

TREATMENT
Under strict asceptic precautions, an
attempt is made to pass a catheter.
If the catheter passes, it should be left
in position for forty eight hours. A perineal haematoma may be drained and the
midline wound packed
